Dr. Khabar received his PhD from the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology in 1993 from The University of Pittsburgh. His Ph.D. thesis was focused on interferon and cytokine biology.  He obtained his MSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, in 1986.  He graduated from the King Abdulaziz University (B.Sc.) in Jeddah in 1984.

Dr. Khabar is a Senior Principal Scientist in the field of molecular biology and immunology and Director of the BioMolecular Research Program at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) Riyadh.  He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Staff at the Department of Cancer Biology, Lerner Research Institute, and Cleveland Clinic Foundation

He is a recipient of the U.S. National Delta Omega Honor and International Cancer Technology Transfer Award from the International Union Against Cancer (2000).  Receiver of the first Outstanding Scientist Award (2002) given by KFSH&RC and Research Achievement Award (2004). 

He is Principal Investigator on competitive local institutional grants. Co-investigator and Collaborator on a number of international grants including NIH sub-contract.  Reviewer in the cytokine field for several international journals.  He has four patent applications and several inventions.

His area of expertise is in interferon biology, RNA stability, and expression analysis of early response (AU-rich element regulated) genes and proteins.
